I feel empowered when I confess to family, friends, or anyone who will listen that I’m now a writer. Inevitably the response is always, “You did what!?!” They are incredulous. What do you mean you’re a writer? I wrote a screenplay. A screenplay? Yes, two. Like, for a movie? Yes, either as Features or for streaming.
It takes a few minutes for it to sink in before the next round of questions begin. Did you ever write before? Not really. How do you even do that? You flush out an idea and you start. Where did you get the idea? My friend wanted to write a movie about a road trip and he invited me along for the ride. But, but… how do you know what to do? You read, you listen, you learn, and you write. Do you like it? No… I LOVE it!
Two scripts in with my now writing partner and working on a team of writers for a streaming series, I still LOVE it! It’s unleashed a creative side in me that I didn’t know existed.
So go ahead, write, shock people with your new found love, and be proud of yourself for following your heart.
